NEW BOOK: 10th Title published in the UFAW Animal Welfare Series

The Welfare of Animals Used in Research: Practice and Ethics gives a complete and balanced overview of the issues surrounding the use of animals in scientific research. This book is a useful introduction to those who intend to work in research involving animals, to prospective animal care staff, to animal welfare scientists, and to those involved in ethical review.


The effects of olfaction on laboratory mouse welfare

UFAW is currently supporting a project seeking to understand the possible olfactory effects of routine husbandry procedures on laboratory mouse welfare.


Nominations invited for the UFAW Young Animal Welfare Scientist of the Year Award 2015

The UFAW Young Animal Welfare Scientist of the Year Award is a regular prize award made by UFAW to recognise the achievements of young scientists who have made significant contributions to improving the welfare of animals. The winner of this award will receive a £1000 cheque and a framed award certificate.


Animal Welfare Research Training (PhD) Scholarship

The HSA (UFAW’s sister charity, the Humane Slaughter Association) is running a scheme to award a research training scholarship, to enable a promising veterinary or science graduate to undertake a three-year program of research,  leading to a degree at doctorate level.


Intelligent Systems for Animal Welfare

UFAW supported a symposium that brought together animal welfare experts and computer scientists to consider how technology may be used to improve animal welfare.


LASA/UFAW meeting on euthanasia in laboratory animals

UFAW regularly arranges joint meetings with LASA to update animal care staff and regulators on the latest research and best practice for animals used in research. The latest meeting considered euthanasia techniques for animals used in research.
