Autumn Appeal 2021
Developing Animal Welfare Expertise Worldwide
UFAW is committed to the development of animal welfare worldwide. We are especially keen to ensure animal welfare science develops in parts of the world where it is not yet firmly established. Some of the biggest improvements can be made in countries with limited animal welfare research capacity, so there is a pressing need to grow local expertise.
One way to achieve this is to support the next generation of animal welfare scientists to develop their research skills. We recently launched a mentoring scheme in which experienced scientists offer support and advice to students taking their first steps into animal welfare research. Our first two students, from Uganda and Nigeria, were mentored by researchers in the Netherlands and Canada.
This year we’re expanding our scheme, offering mentoring to up to eight students. We would also like to provide participating students with essential learning resources, such as books from UFAW’s Animal Welfare series, so we’re asking for your help to give these highly motivated people access to the latest thinking in animal welfare science. Your support will allow today’s animal welfare students to develop into tomorrow’s scientists and animal welfare advocates, who can make a real difference to animal welfare in their home countries.
Thank you for supporting this important initiative.
If we receive more than the amount required for this appeal, UFAW will use the additional funds for other initiatives.
